Rick has been passionate about marketing, and particularly digital marketing for many years. So much so that he wrote a book on the subject. If you read his book, which details his big picture understanding of marketing, you will see he has the exact skill set required for many marketing positions.
He’s been using marketing software for over 30 years. But he believes learning to push the right buttons is the easy part. Understanding why you are pushing those buttons takes understanding of the context for all marketing – the customer decision making process, or Sales Cycle as he calls it.
His greatest skill is understanding the context for all marketing… the customer journey. He believes that without the empathy to understand the customer’s mindset you can’t create the messaging that will create the credibility and trust required to get the customer’s attention and then motivate them to take action.
In his online marketing business, which he retired recently, he managed all aspects of his clients needs including graphic design, campaign development, tracking, and website design. If a tactic works he’s done it. If it doesn’t work he has tried to figure out why. That journey has led to a deep understanding of the big picture of marketing and how it works in today’s marketplace.
